La Mirada City Hall
La Mirada’s City Hall prominently sits on La Mirada Boulevard across from Biola University. It is part of the Civic Center which includes the Library, Sheriff’s Office, Fire Station, Resource Center, Activity Center, Community Gymnasium, Splash! Aquatic Center, La Mirada Regional Park, La Mirada Golf Course, and La Mirada High School. City Hall houses many of the administrative services of the city including building permits and other services.
The City Council is the legislative and policy making body for the City of La Mirada. Five members of the City Council are elected by district in March of odd-numbered years for four-year, overlapping terms. Each year the Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor and one member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor presides over all Council meetings and is the ceremonial head of the City for official functions. Regular meetings of the City Council are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at La Mirada City Hall.
The City of La Mirada purchased approximately 7 acres in 1965 at La Mirada Regional Park from the County of Los Angeles to build a civic center. At that time, the civic center had plans to include a fire station, county health department building, community center, public library, and city hall. Drawings were prepared by architectural firm Anthony & Langford, who later would also create plans for the La Mirada Theatre. The city hall building of La Mirada was dedicated on March 20, 1970.
To the south of City Hall, an eternal flame burns above the names of La Mirada servicemen who gave their lives for their country since 1960, the year the city was incorporated.
