Summer’s just around the corner. A perfect time for children to experience learning and fun together at summer camp! The City of La Mirada is offering a number of STEM camps at the Resource Center throughout the summer covering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Here is a list of 11 STEM camps to check out and register for while space is available.
Computer Coding Camp – 1 week (Ages 7 to 12)
This intro to computer coding lets kids explore the basics of coding. Participants snap together logical statements as they would snap together LEGO bricks. Join for the fun and science, and create your own computer programs. Instructor: Creative Brain Learning

Chemical Detectives – 1 week (Ages 5 to 12)
Magic? No, it’s science! Have fun as we whip up potions and experiment with all kinds of chemical reactions. Then use everything you’ve learned to solve the Mad Science Mystery! $40 materials fee payable to instructor first day of class. Instructor: Mad Science

Junior Robot Engineers – 1 week (Ages 5 to 12)
Junior Mad Science engineers design and build structures using simple tools and their imaginations. Children will discover how different machines are used in our daily lives and use skills learned to build a Mad Science robot they can keep. $40 materials fee payable to instructor first day of class. Lego Star Wars Animation – 1 week (Ages 7 to 13)
Take your imagination to a galaxy far, far away and make a movie in this exciting Lego class. We’ll supply the Lego pieces, you bring in your own Star Wars Lego minifigure to cast in your very own Star Wars themed movie! This class is the ultimate chance to bring your Star Wars Lego masterpiece to life using the art of Stop-Motion-Animation! All student films will be available to view and download. $25 material fee payable to the instructor at the first class meeting. Instructor: Movies by Kids

Little Green Thumbs – 1 week (Ages 3 to 5 )
Flowers and minds can’t blossom without STEMs. This camp is specially designed for inquisitive pre-K or Kinder-“Gardeners”. Kids discover how to paint with wind, create a bug model, start their own garden and learn what nature needs to make their plants grow! $40 materials fee payable to instructor first day of class. Children must be potty trained. Parent not required to stay during class. Instructor: Mad Science

Rockin’ Rocket Scientist – 1 week (Ages 5 to 12)
Set your future space explorers on a trajectory from our Earth’s atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system! Learn about the secrets of rocket science and even participate in a live rocket launch. Join our space academy this summer for some out of this world fun! $40 materials fee payable to instructor first day of class. Instructor: Mad Science

Star Wars: Claymation Galaxy – 1 week (Ages 7 to 13)
Are you fascinated by the story & characters of the Star Wars movies? In this creative class, students will get to design and build their own unique aliens, Jedi Knights, or Sith lords. Students will then bring their masterpieces to life using the art of stop-motion animation. After filming is complete, they will choose their music and supply the voiceover. Super Hero Engineering with LEGO Materials – 1 week (Ages 5 to 7)

Super Heroes need your help to defeat the destructive forces of evil arch-villains as they threaten LEGOpolis! Explore the tools and techniques of your favorite caped crusaders and learn what makes them not only Super Heroes, but super engineers.
