Active Living for Seniors this Fall

Community Health Information & Safety Fair The annual Community Health and Information Safety Fair will take place at the La Mirada Activity Center on September 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Local organizations and agencies will provide a wide variety of resources including free health and wellness screenings and information for older adults. Boxed lunches offered by Café on the Green, will be available during the health fair for a suggested donation of $2.75.  To reserve a lunch, call (562) 947-8787 by Monday, September 10. Fall Festival Seniors are invited to a hoedown at the La Mirada Activity Center on October 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dress in your best western attire and enjoy line dancing, music, games, and cake! The event is free. Lunch is available for a suggested donation of $2.75 and reservations must be made by Monday, October 8 by calling Café on the Green at (562) 947-8787. For more information on the festival, please call (562) 902-3160. Senior Hoops (Ages 50 and up) Have some fun playing basketball with other seniors at the Community Gym. Men and women of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. A discounted Senior Annual Gym Membership ($35) or a day pass must be purchased. Hours are subject to change. For more information, please contact the Gym at (562) 902-2938.  Join in every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Get Crafty! – FREE Join us for themed arts and crafts at the Activity Center! The Community Services Department is responsible for the development and maintenance of those services contributing to the fulfillment of La Mirada’s recreational, social services and transportation needs. Community Services coordinates efforts between the City, residents and other agencies to expand La Mirada’s recreational and social opportunities; plans and administers City park and recreation program; disseminates information to help residents obtain maximum benefit from services available to the community; coordinates social services; conducts programs to enhance the quality of La Mirada’s family environment; and assists in strengthening community identity and citizen understanding of local government.
