Powder Canyon trails. Located in the Puente Hills, and owned by the Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority, these trails will take you through coastal sage scrub and toyon/sumac chaparral and through excellent walnut and oak woodlands. There are many trails to follow and many areas to explore! It is located along Fullerton Road between East Road and Harbor Blvd. in La Habra Heights. When you see the green entrance sign, parking can be accessed by driving into the park where you will find a parking lot and horse warm-up riding ring. Another access point to Powder Canyon is located in Schabarum Park near the horse stables at the end of the developed part of the park. This will meet the previous trails if you go straight up to the ridgeline. The park also has some very nice picnicking areas, and you may see some people relaxing outdoors on blankets or at tables while riders on horseback practice their skills or trot past you on the trails. The Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority is dedicated to the acquisition, restoration, and management of open space in the Puente Hills for preservation of the land in perpetuity, with the primary purpose to protect the biological diversity. They also provide opportunities for outdoor education and low-impact recreation. The Habitat Authority manages approximately 3,870 acres of preserved public open space, of which 1,878 is owned by the Habitat Authority. La Mirada is fortunate to have so much natural beauty close by.
