La Mirada Theatre Renovations Underway

La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. City of La Mirada officials and Majority Leader Calderon have announced the approval of $400,000 in funding for improvements to the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. The funding was announced following final adoption of the 2018-19 State Budget and will assist in making essential upgrades to the theatre. “I am proud to have secured new funding from this year’s budget for vital improvements to the La Mirada Theatre,” stated Majority Leader Calderon. “We are truly fortunate to have such a gem in our community that provides continuous cultural enrichment to residents.” Improvements to the theatre are underway and include the replacement of all 1,251 auditorium seats and upgrades to the sound system. The City of La Mirada is also exploring the possibility of transforming the upstairs lounge area into a performance space for smaller acts. “We are very grateful for the funding that Majority Leader Ian Calderon secured for La Mirada,” stated Mayor Larry Mowles. “These funds will help the City to make needed improvements to our award-winning Theatre and sustain it as a first-class destination.” The La Mirada City Council also approved, in August, the purchase of a movie projector and lenses for use in the theatre for film screenings. The theatre currently does not have a projector. Since it opened its doors in 1977, La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is widely regarded as one of the top theatres in the region for its exceptional live productions and presentations. Approximately 250,000 guests visited the La Mirada Theatre during the most recent season. In addition to the McCoy Rigby Entertainment series of award-winning plays and musicals, La Mirada Theatre also presents a wide range of concerts and special events, and a children’s series. The Theatre is also home to Phantom Projects Theatre Group and La Mirada Symphony. The venue also serves as a performance space for many local dance groups and a gathering place for community events.
