La Mirada Park Lake on Saturday, September 22nd from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. The event begins with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., while quantities last, sponsored by Kiwanis International. The fishing derby kickoff is at 8 a.m. and goes until 11 a.m. Children may take part in free fishing lessons as well as other activities. No fishing license required for children 15 years or younger. A limited number of poles will be available for loan. Fishing in the City Clinics gives people living in the city an opportunity to learn how to fish, and to fish close to home. The Fishing in the City program was created in 1993 to improve angling opportunities to California’s growing urban population. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has a number of downloadable publications in English and Spanish that are great to get kids excited about fishing, including the following:
