Biola Hosts 20th Annual Candyland Event

Biola University will host their annual Candyland event on Oct. 31st. Candyland has become a well-loved community favorite, not only for the Biola community, but within the larger surrounding communities. This year they will be celebrating the 20th annual Candyland event. For those who are new to Biola or have not heard of Candyland before, the women of Alpha Hall (the all-female hall on campus), transform their dorm into “Candyland” based off the children’s board game with the same name. The free event will take place between 5pm-7pm and is open to the general public. Alpha Hall invite the Biola community to join the hundreds of families from the surrounding area, to come and trick-or-treat through each floor of Alpha. The event, designed by Biola students, caters to children ages three through eight years old. Children in 6th grade or under can enjoy free candy handed out by the residents of the hall plus there will also be fun games in the main lobby, face painting, a movie on the lawn, a jump house and a whole community of students dressed up as characters for children to interact with. The tradition of transforming Alpha residence hall into Candyland for an outreach event was founded 19 years ago when a Resident Director in Alpha Hall challenged her staff to think beyond themselves and plan an event that would serve those outside of the Biola community. The staff came up with the idea of hosting a safe and trustworthy event for families to attend on Halloween night for their trick-or-treating by going door-to-door in the residence hall. The women of Alpha would love to invite your families to join them for an evening of memories, laughter, fun and, of course, LOTS of candy! In years past more than 1,000 children have attended.
