Interview with actress Angie Watson

Phantom Projects Theatre Group presents Afflicted: Daughters of Salem – The Untold Story of the Crucible at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts on Thursday, November 15th at 7:00 pm. Actress Angie Watson, playing Tituba, has been acting for about ten years. The excitement she felt watching sitcoms, musicals, and comedy on television as a child is what sparked her interest to get into the entertainment industry. Read all about Angie and how she prepares as an actor below. What are your dreams and goals as an actor? I’d like to do, at least, one fun Fantasy/Sci-Fi Film (i.e. Fantastic Beasts, Avatar, etc); do the Voice-Over for the Grammy Awards show; Do Voice-Over for major Animated Film or Series. Can you tell us a little bit about the character you’ll be playing? Tituba is a Slave, who was brought over, to the United States from Barbados, by her owner, Reverend Parris. History states that she may have been married, at one point, and her African heritage is not exactly confirmed (possibly of Indian descent). She’s caught in a system which claims her freedom, yet, she is bound to the very children, who would eventually change her destiny. I was very excited when I got invited to reprise the role of Tituba, after previously playing Tituba in the original The Crucible stage play, at another theater venue. What do you do as an actor to prepare for this role & show? Because this show has a historical reference, I like to become familiar with the people and events of the time period. I try to imagine myself actually living in the world of the 1690’s, and of course….practice, practice, practice! Why do you like live theatre? The theater is a creative outlet for me. I enjoy the entire process of watching a story jump right off the page and become reality. I love the challenge of playing a variety of interesting characters, building new friendships with other theater folks, and most of all being inspired by other creative types (everyone from the soundboard to the stage managers). I always learn and grow from each experience. Are you working on any other projects at the moment? If so, can you share? Currently wrapping up (at the time of this writing), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance – written by Jethro Compton – at The Attic Community Theater in Santa Ana, CA. It’s been an incredible experience. What’s your typical week like now with rehearsals? As of now, I work during the day, head off to rehearsals Mon-Thur in the evening, and I perform on the weekends. I also make time to go to film auditions. Click here to read the complete interview with Angie Watson. Want to go backstage before the show?
