La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts invites you to enjoy two outstanding performances of award-winning Broadway star and international concert artist James Barbour during 2019. Mr. Barbour will first be starring as Edward Rutledge in the Tony-winning musical 1776, beginning January 11th. Directed by Glenn Casale with musical direction by Jeff Rizzo, the limited engagement will officially open January 12th for a run through February 3rd.
1776
Before Hamilton there was 1776, the electrifying musical about the founding of America. Featuring a diverse contemporary cast, this award-winning smash hit begins with a deadlocked Congress – sound familiar? Its attempts to adopt the Declaration of Independence are boiling in heated confrontations. Spoiler alert: by the evening of July 3rd, the two sides are still miles apart! But remarkably, these contentious Founding Fathers harness their shared determination to do the right thing for a fledgling nation. See how they get it done!
Engaging, tuneful, witty and passionate, this Broadway musical shows us the likes of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson as we’ve never seen them before — with humor and humanity. Irreverent and topical, 1776 is the musical that celebrates what truly made America great… in the first place.
There will be an Open-Captioned performance of 1776 on Saturday, January 26 at 2 pm and an ASL-interpreted performance on Saturday, February 2 at 2 pm. Talkbacks with the cast and creative team will be on Wednesday, January 16 and Wednesday, January 30.
