Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center was recently recognized with a 4-Star Aquatics Safety Award for excellence in operational safety standards, lifeguard professionalism, and risk management practices.
While many facilities simply require a basic lifeguard certification for employment, Splash! exceeds industry standards by being part of the StarGuard ELITE Aquatic Risk Prevention Program. As a participant of this program, Splash! follows higher safety standards, including a more comprehensive lifeguard training program and performance audits.
Splash! received the 4-Star Aquatics Safety Award after audits were conducted by StarGuard ELITE during the summer months of 2018. StarGuard ELITE conducted unannounced audits in “secret-shopper” fashion and evaluated more than 200 data points including observations of lifeguards, supervisors, and dispatchers. Plus, Splash! underwent a variety of simulated “skills” scenarios which ranged from the handling of a basic nosebleed to the extrication and care of an unresponsive drowning patient including the use of CPR, rescue breathing, supplemental oxygen, and an AED. In addition, the facility underwent an evaluation of the physical facility and management’s documentation efforts.
StarGuard ELITE provides risk prevention services such as training, performance audits and operational support to the aquatic industry, in an effort to improve safety and reduce the risk of drowning.
