Gather your family and friends and enjoy the return of summer evenings filled with music, dancing, and delicious food! The Concerts Under the Stars and La Mirada’s Night Market kick-off another season at La Mirada Regional Park with Blue Breeze Band this Thursday, June 13th. The first concert brings you the sounds of Motown, R&B, soul, funk, jazz, and the blues. Enjoy the hits from the ’60s & ’70s up to today’s funkiest dance songs.
For more than 15 years, Blue Breeze Band has been performing throughout Southern California. Members of the band have performed and/or toured with Lakeside, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, L.T.D., Rose Royce, Mary J. Blige, Rod Stewart, Teena Marie, Brothers Johnson, and Evelyn Champagne King. They have also appeared in movies, music videos, and television commercials.
With 30 years of significant experience working on and off the stage as a professional guitarist, Harold Wherry decided 15 years ago to start his own band. Harold’s stylistically wide-range and soulful guitar playing has a unique way of catching the collective ear. During his formative years, Harold was influenced by a steady diet of R&B, blues, and jazz on the club scene in Los Angeles, and has contributed immeasurably to that very scene as a professional musician. As a teenager, he backed soul/R&B singer Bobby Byrd, stage name Bobby Day, and since then has performed with a Coasters tribute band, a Marvelettes tribute band, and with various Motown R&B Soul bands throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. Harold can also be seen playing guitar in the Warner Bros. movie “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”.
Thus far, Blue Breeze has acquired an impressive repertoire of performances for audiences from different walks of life from all over the world. They have performed for former President Bill Clinton, the United States Armed Services in Okinawa, Japan, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the 50th Anniversary Tribute to Motown for the City of Culver City, and performed for 7,500+ Auburn University fans at the 2014 BCS National Championship pregame Tailgate Party at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California.
The Concerts Under the Stars season runs from June 13th through August 8th. The 2019 musical lineup will include a variety of exciting entertainment that will keep your feet tapping and dancing to the beat. Music begins at 6:30 p.m.
Also, come early and enjoy the return of La Mirada’s Night Market, taking place at each weekly concert from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Grab some fresh produce or a bit to eat before the concert. Market vendors will be selling unique dishes, a variety of produce and crafts.
