Annual Stroll in the Park this Thursday

Enjoy three live bands and delicious food at Creek Park

La Mirada’s annual Stroll in the Park is one of the most popular community summer events and it returns to Creek Park on Thursday, July 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

This free event offers residents the opportunity to stroll through beautiful Creek Park with family and friends and listen to different musical performances from three live bands, enjoy delicious food on sale, and take part in games. Residents and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the evening’s festivities.

Stroll in the Park musical entertainment will include doo-wop from “Kulayd,” Latin hits from “Latin Nation,” and jazz from “The Amanda Castro Band.”

Kulayd, is a vocal harmony group who’s repertoire covers everything from 50’s doo-wop and 60’s Motown to 70’s disco and 90’s harmony groups like Boyz to Men.  Kulayd performs all over Orange and Los Angeles Counties and as far away as Las Vegas and Arizona. Kulayd is not background music. They will sing to you and dance with you. Audience participation is a must and a fun time is guaranteed.

Enjoy Latin Nation perform the sounds of cumbias, salsas, merengue, and corridos.  They also entertain with rock en español, old school, and the very popular Mariachi.

Get ready for a musical journey through the decades. Jazz singer Amanda Castro is dazzling audiences all over Los Angeles, Orange County and beyond.  Her rich voice, energetic charisma and fun personality helps her bring music of the past and present back to life in a vintage, but still modern fashion. Amanda fuses vintage jazz, New Orleans jazz, swing, and pop songs into a new musical experience.

The City of La Mirada is working on a Master Plan to improve Creek Park.  The popular community park sits on about 11 acres along La Mirada Creek.  Walking, jogging and relaxing on the grassy banks are favorite visitor activities.  Built in the 1970’s, the park is in need of renovations to improve bridge structures, enhance accessibility, and increase lighting.

The proposed project involves the rehabilitation and naturalization of the existing Creek Park through the implementation of the Master Plan which involves reconfiguration of the La Mirada Creek to return the flood flows to more natural patterns, upgraded park amenities integrated within the existing park facilities, reconstruction of the five wooden bridges, and relocation and expansion of restrooms.

While the proposed project would not result in any substantial changes to the existing on-site intensity, use, or activities, the Master Plan includes a variety of improvements such as spur paths leading to the naturalized creek and its bridges, recreational hardscape and softscape features to improve the functionality of the pathways, new exercise circuit stations, upgraded amphitheater, improved parking lots, better connections to the existing equestrian facilities, fitness and play nodes, garden, picnic areas, benches, and shelters.

“Parks, trails, and open space add to the quality of life in La Mirada,” says City Manager Jeff Boynton.  “Creek Park is an exceptional amenity and we want to ensure it remains a quality park for residents to enjoy.”

Creek Park is located at 12021 Santa Gertrudes Avenue.  For Stroll in the Park event and parking information, contact Community Services at (562) 943-7277.
