August is National Golf Month

Ideas on how to celebrate the game you love at La Mirada Golf Course

The Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) founded National Golf Month in 1993 to promote the sport of golf as family accessible and open to all ages, genders and skill levels. During August, golfers are encouraged to share their experience and bring new golfers to the greens.

The modern game of golf may have originated in 15th century Scotland, but it has a solid hold in the United States, around the world, and even in our own community. The La Mirada Golf Course, designed by William P. Bell, opened in 1961. Located in the heart of La Mirada next to La Mirada Regional Park, it features rolling fairways with several blind target shots into well-bunkered and well-tended greens. The course has been named the Los Angeles County “Course of the Year” six different times and was awarded “Top 10 Golf Courses to Play” by L.A. Magazine and “Best Places to Play” by Golf Digest in 2009.

Whether you’re a long-time golfer or you want to learn the links yourself, take advantage of the opportunities during August’s National Golf Month. Check out these ideas on how you can celebrate the game you love.

Take golf lessons. Learn to play or improve your game by letting a pro teach you. Almost all golfers will admit to needing help with their swing and lessons can improve your game dramatically. You can find private lessons or group instruction available at our local La Mirada Golf Course.

Hit the driving range. Even in the summer, it can be hard to find time for a round or two of golf during the day. If you find it hard to get out on the course, visit the driving range or putting green once a week in the evenings and hit a few buckets of balls. Our La Mirada Golf Course has two large putting greens, chipping green with practice bunker, and a newly renovated driving range.

Teach your kids to play. Summer is a great time to play golf with your kids. Start with a few beginner’s lessons or take them to practice on the driving range. Whether they become serious players, or they just enjoy mini-golf, you’ll make a lifetime of memories. It’s a great way to spend one-on-one time with them.

Experience a new course. Playing in a different environment can help improve your golf game. Venture beyond our own La Mirada Golf Course and check out other great golf courses a short drive away. Click here for a map of golf courses close to La Mirada.

Play 36 holes. Sometimes it can be hard to find the time, so dedicate an entire day to the sport. Meet up with friends, get to the course early, and make a day of it. Challenge yourself by walking the first 18 holes, break for lunch, and then walk or ride during your second 18 holes. You’ll be home by dinner.

Join a golf course club. La Mirada Golf Course hosts three different clubs on the course—the Ladies’ Club, Men’s Club, and the Senior Men’s Club. These clubs are an opportunity to build friendships and camaraderie with others passionate about golf.

When you love the game of golf, National Golf Month is a wonderful excuse to celebrate it. Whether you’re up early to get the first tee time or you watch the sun set over the 18th green, you can always find new ways to enjoy your favorite pastime by yourself or with friends and family.
