Tiny Tots & Youth Programs

Check out these five community programs designed for ages 3-17

The City of La Mirada offers kindergarten readiness and afterschool youth programs all year long. Whether you are introducing your little one to preschool skills, looking for supervised activities in the afternoon, or your teen is looking for a leadership opportunity, there are fun and engaging programs at facilities across the community. Check out these five youth programs options and register today:

Tiny Tots – Ages 3 to 4
Children will be introduced to preschool skills through hands-on learning, active play, and socialization. This class will build self-confidence, encourage independence and creativity, and aid in cognitive and fine motor development. Bring a sack lunch and drink. All children must be potty trained.

Club Kindergarten – Ages 4 to 5
Club Kindergarten is designed to engage children through activities, active play, and socialization. Participants will be introduced to a variety of kindergarten readiness activities that encourage independence and academic exploration. Number recognition, phonics development, science, culinary arts, and literature are among the many areas of exploration and development. Club Kindergarten teachers work with the school district to prepare children for kindergarten. Bring a sack lunch and drink. All children must be potty trained.

The Hangout – Ages 11 to 16
“The Hangout” offers a fun interactive environment for teens between the ages of 11 and 16. This Frontier Park program gives teens the opportunity to hang out with friends, do their homework, and participate in sports and unique workshops. The program is free and is open during the school year starting August 15, Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 5 p.m., with the exception of Wednesdays starting at 1 pm. This is a drop-in program and does not require registration.

Leaders in Training – Ages 13 to 17
Youth ages 13 to 17 may gain work experience and explore the field of recreation through the City of La Mirada’s Leaders in Training program. Tailored specifically to enable youth to build leadership skills in a fun and interesting environment, the program gives Leaders in Training participants the opportunity to assist with various recreational programs, events, and facilities within the City. Applications are now being accepted for the school year session at the La Mirada Resource Center.

Community Parks – Ages 8+
Frontier, Gardenhill, and Windermere Parks are supervised by City staff during the school season starting August 15, Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 5 pm, with the exception of Wednesdays, starting at 1 pm. Crafts, games, and sports activities are available daily and are recommended for children ages 8 and above. All activities take place outdoors, except in inclement weather.
