Summer camp and other activities return in June

La Mirada Summer Camps Robotics

Many of the City of La Mirada’s popular programs are back for this summer.  Attendance levels and operations may be modified based on requirements set by the State of California and County of Los Angeles Health Department.  The City continues to monitor COVID-19 health regulations and is committed to providing programs and services safely.

La Mirada is bringing back Summer Day Camp and many other camp options through Community Services from June through August. Check out the complete list:

Summer Day Camp – $90
Join a reimagined summer with fun and safety! Children ages 6-12 can enjoy socially distanced activities such as games, crafts, movies, and more. Summer Day Camp will take place at Neff Park Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. It is a nine-week program that starts Monday, June 7th and runs through Friday, August 6th.

Summer Day Camp Extended Care – $55
Want your children to attend Summer Day Camp but need to cover more of the day? Sign up for extended care as well! The Extended Care option of summer camp is from 6:30 am to 6 pm.

“Slime”-y, sticky, stretchy concoctions – $217
Ooze into a gooey fun time while sliming around. You will get stuck on science as you become lab scientists-in-training in this whirlwind program. Take a trip through several fields of chemistry to discover and experience firsthand how to make elephant toothpaste, a forever snowball, and everyone’s favorite – sticky slime. This 4-day camp is offered once each month from 9 am to 12 pm in the Resource Center. For ages 5-12.

321… Blast OFF – $217
Mad Science and NASA are teaming up. Calling all GALAXY DEFENDERS to blast off to the outer reaches of our solar system. Learn what it takes to live in space. The class will bring you closer to the stars and planets, tinker with space technology, and participate in a live rocket launch that models the same rocket you will build and take home. This 4-day camp is offered three times this summer from 9 am to 12 pm in the Resource Center. For ages 5-12.

Pop Star Sing & Dance Camp – $179
Grab your glitter microphone and join the Pop Star-inspired camp. Campers will learn lyrics to their favorite current popular artists and (clean) songs. Pop stars will combine lyrics, and clean choreographed dances while learning performance skills and stage presence. Pop Star Performance for their VIP Fans on the last day with photos. This 5-day starts July 12th from 10 am to 1 pm in the Resource Center. For ages 5-9.

Princess Academy Camp – $179
Academy Princess’ students will engage in a week of summer-filled fun, etiquette for children and beginning dance themed around their favorite winter princesses and friends. Princesses are trained through familiar songs, games, basic etiquette, stories, dance, and daily themed princess crafts. Princesses-in-training activities focus on poise, manners, grace, and kindness through learning beginning ballet and jazz, tea party etiquette, and playing team-building games. This week-long camp starts June 28th from 10 am to 1 pm in the Resource Center. For ages 3.5-7.

Robotics Labworks – $217
Discover the inner workings of robots by experimenting with circuits, gears, sensors, and power supplies. Watch as the Tesla Coil sends out bolts of electricity and turn on a lightbulb with your own body when you become a human circuit. You will become robot engineers as you build a unique motorized robot that you can take home at the end of the week. This 4-day camp will run four times during the summer from 9 am to 12 pm in the Resource Center. For ages 5-12.

Virtual LEGO Engineering Camp – $99
Bring your imagination and engineering talents. Learn about basic physics and engineering principles and apply them to various projects. This class is offered online. This week-long class starts June 21st from 1 pm to 2:15 pm. For ages 7-12.

Volleyball Camp – $107
Boys and girls can learn the basic volleyball skills needed to become a competitive player. Camp is instructed by the La Mirada High School girls volleyball coaches, Katrina Rosales and Linda Reich. Passing, hitting, and serving will be emphasized, as well as court strategies.

Community Services staff will also provide recreation activities at Gardenhill, Frontier, and Windermere Parks on weekdays from 12 to 4 p.m.  All city parks and playgrounds continue to be open to the community. Outdoor youth volleyball and dodgeball are being offered in addition to several classes provided by contract instructors.  The City also plans to re-open the Community Gymnasium, Activity Center, and Resource Center for other summer programs and activities.
