On Tuesday, November 30th at the city council meeting, California Assemblymember Lisa Calderon presented to the city a check in the amount of $800,000 to fund pedestrian bridge improvements at Creek Park. Assemblymember Calderon worked with the chair of the Assembly budget committee and the Senate to secure funding within the California legislative budget passed this year.
“For many in our community, walking through Creek Park and enjoying the outdoor space has been a respite from the pandemic and what we went through the last year and a half,” stated Calderon. “And the construction of a new bridge will improve accessibility within the park and ensure that the area’s residents can continue to enjoy views of La Mirada Creek for years to come.”
Mayor Eng expressed his appreciation from the community. “We are so thankful and grateful…This is a great, great help.”
The pedestrian bridge improvement funds will allow the City to complete a portion of the much larger Creek Park Master Plan until additional funding is available.
In 2018, the City of La Mirada approved a Master Plan to improve Creek Park, which sits on approximately 11 acres along La Mirada Creek. Built in the 1970s, the park is in need of infrastructure improvements, renovations, and enhanced ADA accessibility. Key restoration features include a naturalized creek channel, new bridges, terraced seating, a one-mile interior loop path, fitness features with nature play elements, pollinator gardens, and improved surveillance access.
