A grand opening of the new La Mirada Community Gardens was held on January 27th at Frontier Park. The garden is now operational and will help provide many benefits including fresh produce, a sense of community among gardeners, and active and healthy lifestyles.
Crews completed installation of a perimeter fence, added irrigation lines and hose bibs, built garden plots, placed new walkways, and created a central refuse collection area. The new garden area accommodates 20 plots of about 150 square feet and one larger garden area.
Frontier Park, located at 13212 Marquardt Avenue, is a six-acre passive park with play equipment, picnic areas, and a community building. The addition of a community garden program at Frontier Park may also provide children attending the afterschool program access to the garden and its educational opportunities.
