Holiday Inn of La Mirada will be hosting the 6th Annual La Mirada Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday, April 29th from 7 am to 9 am. The buffet breakfast will include an inspiring morning of music, unity, prayer, and fellowship! Special music performed by Masters of Harmony Singers. This year’s featured keynote speaker is Dr. Dave Holmquist, Men’s Basketball Coach at Biola University. Early bird pricing is $20 per person if paid by April 10th. Regular pricing is $25 after April 11th. Reserve an entire table of 10 for $200 if purchased by April 10th.
Dr. Dave Holmquist has served as Head Coach at Biola University for 42 seasons. He is a college basketball coaching legend, with his 1000 career wins being fifth-most all-time among men’s college basketball coaches. He earned his 900th career coaching victory with a 79-60 victory over Bethesda on Nov. 24, 2015. That win made him just the eighth coach in the history of all levels of college basketball to reach the 900-win mark! Entering the 2019-20 season, Coach Holmquist has an all-time record of 973-394 (.712 win percentage) in 42 seasons of coaching including an impressive 937-351 record (.727 win percentage) in his 42 years at Biola.
The City of La Mirada recognized Dr. Dave Holmquist at a City Council Meeting last May with the Community Spotlight Award, which recognizes exceptional individuals, who through their actions, bring credit to themselves and to the City of La Mirada.
The Myllie Taylor Community Service Award will be awarded during the annual prayer breakfast to an individual, community-based organization, or business that resides within, is located within, works within, or conducts their community service activities within the city of La Mirada. The recipient could receive this award for a single incident, event, or activity or could be based upon multiple years of community service activities given selflessly of their/its time and talents, making extraordinary contributions to the City of La Mirada.
