
Over the past year, the City has completed several capital improvement projects, with additional projects currently under construction or in the planning phase for the upcoming year. These projects aim to modernize and upgrade aging infrastructure to meet modern public works standards.
Projects under construction:
- Energy Conservation and Infrastructure Modernization: LED lighting conversions, HVAC upgrades, and solar panel installations are nearly complete, with electric vehicle charging stations operational at Behringer Park and the Civic Center.
- Creek Park Bridge Replacement: A new pedestrian/vehicle bridge has been installed, with additional park renovations planned.
- Imperial Highway and Artesia Boulevard Slurry Seal: Road improvements are near completion.
- Neighborhood Street Slurry Seal Area 5: Slurry sealing for residential streets resumes in the spring for streets bounded by Santa Gertrudes Avenues, Imperial Highway, east City limits, and Rosecrans Avenue.
- Storm Drain Catch Basin Capture Devices: Installation of over 300 catch basins throughout the City is nearly complete. These prevent litter, debris, and other contaminants from entering the storm drain system.
- City Hall Fountain Renovations: The fountain is being renovated, with expected completion by spring.
- City Entrance and Wayfinding Signs Replacement: New signs are being fabricated and posts are being repainted in phases to replace faded City entrance and wayfinding signs.
- Public Works ADA Entrance Ramp: A new accessible ramp is being constructed to meet ADA standards.
Upcoming projects:
- Creek Park Renovation: Design plans are set for improved accessibility, landscaping, and irrigation. Several grants were secured to help fund this project.
- Biola Avenue, Rosecrans Avenue, and La Mirada Boulevard Landscape Renovation: The design of irrigation and landscaping improvements along these streets is complete, pending funding in the next fiscal year.
- Leffingwell Road Median Improvements: The project includes the design of new raised medians with landscaping from Telegraph Road to Stamy Road. A $2.5 million grant will help fund this project.
- Splash! Emergency Generator Upgrade: The existing emergency backup system at Splash! will be upgraded with new generators, with construction beginning in the spring.
- Valley View Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation: This project will address asphalt repairs, sidewalk improvements, and ADA upgrades.
- Telegraph Road Traffic Signal: A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Telegraph Road, Wicker Drive, and Hutchins Drive.
Projects Currently in Design:
- Neff Park Renovation: ADA accessible walkways, new lighting, and renovated tennis and basketball courts are among the planned improvements at Neff Park. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2025.
- Behringer Park Irrigation and Turf Renovation: This project includes irrigation and turf renovation, and ADA upgrades. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2025.
- North Firestone Boulevard Improvements: This project involves pavement rehabilitation and median landscape renovations, with design currently underway.
- City Hall Emergency Generator Replacement: An emergency generator replacement is in the works, with design underway and installation costs planned for next fiscal year.
- Alondra Boulevard and Phoebe Avenue Traffic Signal: A new traffic signal will be installed at Alondra Boulevard and Phoebe Avenue, with additional right-of-way purchase underway.
- Valley View Avenue/Alondra Boulevard Intersection Improvements: The City is working with Santa Fe Springs to widen this intersection as part of a larger METRO-funded project.
- Theatre Drainage and Loading Dock Improvements: Planning is complete for drainage improvements and upgrades to the Theatre’s loading dock.
- Telegraph Road Pavement Rehabilitation: The City is working on designs for pavement improvements along Telegraph Road, from Leffingwell Road to Imperial Highway.
