The Brilliance collaborates with Biola Symphony

The special concert will feature the premiere of an orchestrated song suite for the event

Biola’s Conservatory of Music invites you to join them for a special concert featuring The Brilliance collaborating with the Biola Symphony Orchestra (BSO) on Monday, March 25th at 6pm in the Lansing Recital Hall on Biola’s campus. The concert will feature the premiere of an orchestrated song suite written specifically for The Brilliance and the BSO by John Arndt of The Brillance. The concert will also include The Brilliance performing some of their most popular songs, accompanied by the Biola Symphony Orchestra.

The symphony orchestra has collaborated with The Brilliance a couple of times including a performance back in September 2016. The performance was a part of the “Love and Humility in Politics,” sponsored by the Biola University Center for Christian Thought. The concert proved to be a unique learning experience for orchestra students, particularly because they were given the music for the concert the night before the event — resulting in limited rehearsal time with the band. In addition to this, some of the songs the band played were brand new, and freshly written orchestra parts were given to the musicians minutes before the event.

The Brilliance is made up of David Gungor and John Arndt. The duo started making music in 2010 and released a self-titled album, The Brilliance, in October 2010. A string of albums caught the attention of Integrity Music, which released Brother, the duo’s first studio album, in February 2015. The album charted on the Billboard Christian Albums chart at #36. In January 2017, Integrity Music released All is Not Lost. The album peaked at #20 on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart and #12 on Billboard’s Heatseeker’s chart. In November 2018, The Brilliance released an independent album, Suite No. 1 Oh Dreamer, and are currently in the middle of their End of the World Tour with Gungor and Propaganda.

Gungor and Arndt grew up together in Marshfield Wisconsin. Their music has evolved over the years from liturgical art, to peacemaking protest music, to focusing on music that inspires empathy. David Gungor is the brother of Michael Gungor, an American singer-songwriter who leads the musical collective Gungor.
