The La Mirada Library invites you to attend an informational meeting on Film Fest, a youth film festival taking place this summer at the library. Children and teens, from ages 10-18, are invited to participate in La Mirada Library Film Fest by creating a short film dramatizing a favorite book. Have fun and be unique as you and your friends stage your favorite story!
Meet with La Mirada librarians this Tuesday, May 21st from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm. They will be able to answer questions about Film Fest, help you select a book, and introduce you to filmmaking tools and resources. You can also view short film adaptations made by other children and teens. Flash drives will be provided while supplies last.
Films (live action, animated, or stop motion animated) should be limited to 90 seconds. Adult assistance is permitted, but films should be creatively driven by and starring children/teens. Group submissions are encouraged; only one film per child/group will be accepted. Films must be suitable for a general audience.
Submission deadline is July 16th. Entries must be submitted in .mp4 format, accompanied by an entry form and photo release for all participants. Films will premiere at the library on July 30th; prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd. Attend the information session and/or workshops to learn more about the program and the process of filmmaking. Space is limited; registration is required.
Looking for some guidance? The library is offering a hands-on, three-week workshop, June 11th, 18th & 25th, featuring the basics of stop motion animation taught by LA Makerspace. This workshop will also cover character development, story structure, and storyboarding – important elements of any story or film. Registration begins May 28th.
