Summer break doesn’t need to mean that learning has to stop. The City of La Mirada is offering ten STEM camps this summer at the La Mirada Resource Center. These camps cover everything from hands-on art and science projects to computer coding and LEGO constructing. These sessions are designed to be fun and educational. This is their chance to explore new worlds in these ten exciting learning camps.
Cartoon Anime Camp
Join in this exciting exploration of Cartoon and Anime art. Students will draw and create their own cartoon characters. Participants will also explore anime drawing in simple steps and also develop their very own anime characters and stories.
Fizz-ical Chemworks with Mad Science
Magic? No, it’s science! Use forces to shake up a flask of fun in the lab and become a junior chemist! Learn to recognize chemical reactions and mix up a few reactive ingredients for some sensational results. Check out the colors of chemistry with the power of pH. Campers have a blast as they make some crazy concoctions, like their own batch of sticky slime!
ScienceWorkz Camp
Creative Brain ScienceWorkz Camp presents students with a great variety of hands-on science projects, ranging from solar energy, exploring both solar electric cells and solar ovens, aviation, roller coasters, electricity and circuits, chemical compounds, and much more!
SpyWorkz Science Camp
Discover the intriguing world of forensic science. This is a great opportunity to sharpen your investigative skills and keen intellect. This program is based on a series of TOP SECRET mission assignments.
Computer Coding Camp
Intro to computer coding lets kids explore the basics in coding. Participants snap together logical statements as they would snap together LEGO bricks. Join for the fun and science, and create your own computer programs.
NASA Space Explorers with Mad Science
Set your future space explorers on a trajectory from our Earth’s atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system! We will bring them closer to the stars, planets, comets and more. Learn about living in space, getting away from gravity, looking for space phenomena, and last but not least, learn about the secrets of rocket science and even participate in a live rocket launch!
Video Game Design Camp
You play them, now make them. Have fun learning how to create your very own video games and share your completed games with the world. Using an object-based coding engine, students will create their own unique game environments and challenges. Final projects are games that can be taken home and played.
Robots 101 with Mad Science
Join Mad Science for an introduction to robots! Discover the inner workings of robots by experimenting with circuits, gears, sensors, and power supplies. We will learn how different machines, both simple and complex, are used in our daily lives. Throughout the week, campers will become robot engineers as they build an OWI Kiko.893 unique motorized robot that they can take home at the end of the week!
Intro to STEM with LEGO Materials
Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as trains, helicopters, treehouses, and beam bridges. Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. There are no prerequisites for this course.
STEM Challenge with LEGO Materials
Level up your engineering skills with PlayWell TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as gear cars, gondolas, merry-go-rounds, and scissor lifts.
