The City of La Mirada was ranked the 38th safest city in California by Safewise’s annual crime report. The “safest” cities rankings are intended to highlight cities with low crime rates and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer. Safewise uses FBI crime statistics data to rank cities in each state and across the country. To add extra insight and depth to that assessment, they include demographic information and the results of their proprietary State of Safety research study.
The La Mirada community moved up twelve spots from 2019 when it was ranked 50th safest city in California. Safewise’s ranking shows that La Mirada has had decreasing rates of violent crime and property crime in the past three years.
The Safewise “safest city” ranking comes on the heels of the City of La Mirada’s recently released 2020 Crime Report. During the past year, the City of La Mirada again experienced one of the region’s lowest crime rates and remained among the safest cities in Los Angeles County. The City’s low crime rate is attributed to a strong partnership between residents, businesses, and the Public Safety Team. This partnership fosters a well-coordinated team approach to fighting crime.
That report stated that La Mirada experienced the lowest number of Part 1 crimes in 2020 of communities in southeast Los Angeles County and northern Orange County. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, larceny, burglary, automobile theft, robbery, assault, and arson.
La Mirada continues to have one of the lowest crime rates in the area with fewer calls for service and generally less criminal activity. In 2020, the majority of Part 1 crimes were property crimes. Of the 791 Part 1 crimes reported in La Mirada, 699 were crimes involving stolen property. This accounts for nearly 90 percent of Part 1 crimes reported in 2020.
