The City of La Mirada was ranked the 47th safest city (out of 482) in California by Safewise’s annual crime report. The “safest” cities rankings are intended to highlight cities with low crime rates and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer. Safewise uses FBI crime statistics data to rank cities in each state and across the country. To add extra insight and depth to that assessment, they include demographic information and the results of their proprietary State of Safety research study.
The La Mirada community continues to be ranked as one of the 50 safest cities in California. Safewise’s ranking shows that La Mirada has had decreasing rates of property crime in the last two years. Rates of violent crime continue to remain low and have held steady.
The Safewise “safest city” ranking comes after the City of La Mirada’s released 2021 Crime Report. During 2021, the City of La Mirada again experienced one of the region’s lowest crime rates and remained among the safest cities in Los Angeles County. The City’s low crime rate is attributed to a strong partnership between residents, businesses, and the Public Safety Team. This partnership fosters a well-coordinated team approach to fighting crime.
That report stated that La Mirada experienced one of the lowest numbers of Part 1 crimes in 2021 of communities in southeast Los Angeles County and northern Orange County. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, larceny, burglary, automobile theft, robbery, assault, and arson.
In 2021, the majority of Part 1 crimes were property crimes. Of the 813 Part 1 crimes reported in La Mirada, 757 were crimes that involved property. There were zero homicides in 2021.
