A Faithful Community

The La Mirada area is home to over 25 different churches eager to welcome you through their doors. La Mirada’s faith community is diverse, supportive of each other, and always growing. Joining a place of worship is a great way to meet new friends with shared values and get connected to resources and information for you and your family.

People of all faiths have been worshipping across La Mirada since the founding of the community. From the beginning, the original development plan for La Mirada incorporated neighborhood churches throughout the community. These churches not only provide a foundation to the local faith community but also provide community support services like La Mirada’s local food bank.

The interfaith community regularly gathers together at events such as the La Mirada Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast each spring and community service days through Love La Mirada, a partnership between the faith community and local civic organizations.

Calvary Chapel is a sacred worship space located on Biola University’s La Mirada campus. The chapel — originally constructed in 1975 by architect John Andre Gougeon — was renovated in summer 2018 by world-renowned Danish artists Peter Brandes and Maja Lisa Engelhardt, who transformed the space with original sculptures, stained-glass windows, and reimagined seating, flooring, paint, and lighting.

The renovated chapel features 32 beautiful, handcrafted stained-glass windows and two large gilded sculptures, all created around the central theme of the Resurrection. 13800 Biola Ave | biola.edu
