La Mirada Middle Schools

The La Mirada Community is served by three middle schools

La Mirada community is served by three middle schools:

Reginald M. Benton Middle School (Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School)
The Gifted and Talented (GATE) Program at Benton is for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who have been identified as academically or intellectually gifted, and/or gifted in Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA). VAPA gifted students receive the opportunity at Benton to explore their particular area of giftedness in the arts, and can choose from an array of other electives in the arts.

Arlie F Hutchinson Middle School (Math, Science & Technology Magnate School)
Hutchinson’s STEM Magnet Program is an introduction to engineering principles and a pathway into the Engineering Academy at La Mirada High School. Our sequence of courses begins in 6th grade and have PLTW: Project Lead the Way component. The three courses are Engineering and the Environment (6th), Automation and Robotics (7th), and Design and Modeling (8th).

Los Coyotes Middle School (Centurion Honors Magnet)
The creativity, action, and service (CAS) aspect of the Centurion Honors Magnet provides students the opportunity to enhance their educational experience outside of the academic world and embrace the pillars of Character Counts! CREATIVITY encourages students to become involved in a wide range of arts and other activities outside of the core curriculum. ACTION requires students to participate in individual or team activities that should include some form of physical activity. SERVICE projects and activities are a core element of a Centurion Honors student. It is through service that our students can become nurturing and caring individuals.
