Murphy Ranch Park is a little known, hidden oasis on the east side of Whittier where you can walk your dog, or your horse. It’s away from the city but it’s still in the city. The park was developed as a wilderness or natural park. The park itself has a natural ravine down the middle with hiking trails on both sides. Much of it backs up to homes.
The park has about 8 tables allowing up to about 40 picnickers, a drinking fountain, a horse trough, and no restroom. Bicycle riding also is permitted as long as you keep below the speed limit of 15 mph. There are three main trails – the longest going about a mile and a half. The main entrance is at the parking lot at Youngwood and Las Cumbres drives.
