Mary Poppins Returns to the Library

The magical nanny returns to delight all at the La Mirada Library

The La Mirada Library invites you to attend this Tuesday’s musical fantasy film featuring Mary Poppins Returns in their Pajama Party Movie Night series for children. Put on your favorite pair of pajamas because it’s time for another movie night at the La Mirada Library from 5:30 to 7:30 pm! For families with children 3 – 17 years old. Movie nights are generously sponsored by the Friends of the La Mirada Library.

Decades after her original visit, the magic continues in Disney’s classic as Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) helps the Banks family remember the joy of being a child. Together with her friend Jack the lamplighter (Lin-Manuel Miranda), fun is brought back to the streets of London in a celebration that everything is possible…even the impossible.

Based on the book series Mary Poppins by P. L. Travers, the film is a sequel to the 1964 film Mary Poppins, and stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep in supporting roles.

It was chosen by both the National Board of Review and American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2018 and received numerous award nominations, including four at the 76th Golden Globe Awards (including for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy), nine at the 24th Critics’ Choice Awards, three at the 72nd British Academy Film Awards, and a SAG Award nomination for Blunt at the 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards. It also received four Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score, Best Original Song (“The Place Where Lost Things Go”), Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design at the 91st Academy Awards.

Released in December 2018, Mary Poppins Returns grossed $349 million at the box office. MPAA Rating: PG; Parental Guidance Suggested; for some mild thematic elements and brief action.
