Enjoy a summer retro evening filled with music, dancing, and delicious food this Thursday, July 11th. The Concerts Under the Stars and La Mirada’s Night Market continues the season at La Mirada Regional Park with the hot 80s cover sounds of Neon Nation.
Formed as the result of an ’80s party thrown by band guitarist Paul Byrd, Neon Nation is a cover band whose repertoire includes new wave, glam rock, and hard rock. Audiences can expect to hear songs by Billy Idol, The Cure, Van Halen and just about every other hair-raising act from the 1980s.
“The thing about ’80s music is it offers a little bit of everything,” said Byrd, who founded his six-piece band in the early 2000s with guitarist Mike Mahin. “You have your new wave, rock and all the dance stuff by Madonna, etc. And even the young kids are familiar with all the songs. It’s amazing how they seem to be able to sing along and know every word.”
With female and male lead singers, live keys, two guitars, a professional light show, and more dance moves than Michael Jackson, Neon Nation’s family-branded entertainment rocks a wider selection of 80s hits than any other 80s band, and recreates them just like people remember them. They’ve performed to tens of thousands of people across the region.
“I think one of the things that set our group apart from similar acts is that all of us sing, which allows us to cover almost any song from the ’80s,” said Byrd. “And we work very hard to play the songs just like they sound on the radio. We’re not trying to re-write the book. We just want to give people what they love.”
The Concerts Under the Stars season runs through August 8th. The 2019 musical lineup will include a variety of exciting entertainment that will keep your feet tapping and dancing to the beat. Music begins at 6:30 p.m.
Also, come early and enjoy the return of La Mirada’s Night Market, taking place at each weekly concert from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Grab some fresh produce or a bit to eat before the concert. Market vendors will be selling unique dishes, a variety of produce and crafts.
